Panasonic DMP-BD60 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player- Black reviews:
Rating: One of the best for the money.
I bought this player to replace a Samsung BD P2500 that gived me big compatibility problems with Blu ray discs, and so far have not been disappointed. Picture quality on Blu ray is stunning and I have had no compatibility issues far, upscaling on standard DVDs is great. VieraCast is a novel feature that could someday find greatness if Panasonic extended support to include Amazon, Netflix and Hulu. I understand support is on the way.

I haven’t experienced the freezing issues that many describe here, but I think that is caused by how I use the player more than anything else. I watch a disc or two at a time, then power the unit off between uses for a technical explanation of why this seemingly sidesteps the problem, see the next paragraph. In any way, I have read online newly that Panasonic has figured out the cause of the freezing issue and is working on a firmware update to fix it.

For you techies out there, here is a bit more in depth explanation of the freezing issue, depending on what I have gleaned online: Blu ray discs make heavy use of Java, and the BD60 seemingly has “garbage collection issues” that cause the freezing. Powering the unit off periodically clears out what is in memory, minimizing the likelihood of another freeze up. Since I tend to watch one or two Blu Ray discs at a time , then shut the unit off for between uses, I have not experienced any freezes.

The only other quirk I can report is that while the unit does support 24fps playback on DVDs, you must switch it on manually every time. Kind of a ache, but only a ache if you are a video purist.

That’s it. No other issues. Sorry for the boring review, but this player just does everything that it is supposed to without complaints. I think about it one of the best A/V investments I have made in a long time, and could recommend it to others without hesitation.

Rating: Slow but works great.
This is our 1st blu ray player so I have nothing to compare it to other than our ancient DVD player. I got this due to great reviews both professional and user. It seemed like a good balance between quality, affordability and speed. But, it’s amazingly slow though I expected many slowness. I am not bothered by the time it takes to get to the major menu of blu ray discs. I just pop in the disc and keep myself busy. But what surprised me is how long it takes the unit to power on and the tray to open so I can put the disc in. Not a big deal but I was not expecting it.

I have a 37″ 720p TV and blu ray discs look great as do DVDs both at 1080i can’t wait to experience Blu ray on a 1080p TV. Nevertheless I can hardly tell the difference between DVD and Blu ray with this machine on my TV. It all looks great. I have not updated the firmware since I got the player, pretty much right when it came out. I get new blu ray releases through Blockbuster Online some number of times a week and have never had a problem.

Pros

Blu ray discs look excellent

Upconverted dvds appear like blu ray quality

Cons

Slooooow in comparison to DVD players. There are faster Blu ray players too.

No wi fi choice for bd live, Youtube, or On Demand features, or firmware updates . It needs to be hardwired to your home network.

Rating: Firmware Updates a NIGHTMARE For Panasonic Blue Rays
We love our new Panasonic DMP BD60 Blue Ray, but only three stars because trying to update the firmware by any of the suggested techniques and many 1 800 numbers is a total NIGHTMARE. Shame on you Panasonic. You may be able to do better then this!!!

Rating: My 1st Blu Ray Player
Because this Panasonic is my 1st Blu Ray player, I can not compare it with other brands or models, but I am happy with the high def image and sound.

I had many compatibility problems with my DVI TV. They were solved with a phone call to Panasonic’s excellent tech support.

Rating: Very Nice Entry Level Player
Pros

Great PQ/AQ, Profile 2.0, decodes also as bitstreams DTS HD MA &amp, Dolby True HD. Sleek design, decent BD load times, cheap.

Cons

BD Live load time may be quicker To be just though I have only tested the feature once.

This is my 1st stand alone Blu ray player. I picked this up about two weeks ago after my PS3 overheated. This little player is great. The most vital thing to me was playback dependability. I did not want a player where every other movie there is a problem. I decided on a Panasonic b/c of the good reviews on playback and easily available updates. I have a Panasonic 50″ plasma so I know Panny makes good stuff. The picture quality is amazing. I nearly want to say better then the PS3. Set up was a breeze. Out of the box to Quantum of Solace in ten mins.

I did have to laugh at the fact that a Blu ray player could come with composite cables. You’d think they’d at least throw in part cables if they could not find many cheap HDMI’s to include. The SD card isn’t included either. Considering I found a 2GB card online for less than $7 I think one may have been included also, no biggie though.

Performance wise I am happy. I have had no playback issues to this point. I love the ethernet port for fast updates when needed. The Vierra Cast feature is neat but not sure how much I will use it. Same goes for BD Live which I tested with Transformers and found the load time to be a bit long for my liking didn’t count but I’d say about 2 3 mins. Movie load times are much better, I’d say 20 secs min, 40 secs max so far.

Overall I’d say this is an excellent entry level player. If you want a dependable player for movie watching and do not plan on many of BD Live stuff or Netflix streaming which this player does not do then I say get this player. I am happy I spent a little extra and got this instead of going for that $99 Curtis Mathes deal a couple weeks ago. Pleased.

PlayStation 3 80GB reviews:
Rating: Awesome console
I enjoyed my PS2 for many years, and I newly upgraded. I played the Wii for a while, and it’s unfortunately collecting dust in favor of the graphics and online potential of the PS3. Though I am disappointed the rumored price drop didn’t happen before I made the buy, I’m still happy with this product and recommend it to gamers and Blu Ray movie watchers alike.

Rating: GREAT DEVICE
This system embodies the name “PLAYSTATION” that’s exactly what it’s, a complete entertainment system. Touted as being one of the BEST blueray players on the market, its an excellent gaming system, and with my HDD upgrade to 320GB its my movie hub, my music collection and picture viewer with complete slideshow and music. Playstation network is great and Online is FREE and easy most of all FREE. The games look great, and the Playstation exclusives are mind blowing. I have had my system for nearly a month and I love it.

Rating: Go and purchase, that is all
Great. Amazing graphics, game, system and everything. I also had a wii but i dont like it anymore, it is just too boring after a couple of months. Purchase it if you want to upgrade to a great looking system without caring of the RROD.

Rating: I like Playstation !
The blue ray is exceptional. I’m old, maybe that’s the reason I find the controls tough.

Rating: Congrats Sony, I not care about video games thanks to you
I have to say its something of a break, after purchasing PS3 the Metal Gear hard four bundle and looking into the games GTA4 and Fallout three over a ton of rentals I grew totally bored of the thing and sold it on Ebay for a good chunk of change.

The games looked and played great, I think PS3 is a good system its just none of these games are worth playing after some hours. It gets old really fast and I find myself wanting to play something very retro like Mortal Kombat II or a side scroller. In a way I’m happy, I just have dropped an costly hobby and replaced it with bicycling and photography. Do yourself a favor and do not annoy purchasing a gaming system, go to a friends house and play theirs. You will not want one that bad after some turns if you have any sense. Most of these games are just FPShooters where you’re just aiming the center of the screen on a graphic and hitting a button. Its really mindless, the flashiest graphics in the world can not change this fact. I’d rather go back to PS2 honestly, MGS3 was most likely the last really great video game.
