5.0 out of five stars Pleased!, July 28, 2011
By LoveMyToys (Long Island, NY) See all my reviews () This review is from: Panasonic DMP BDT110 Wi Fi prepared 3D/2D Blu ray Disc Player (Electronics) This Panasonic DMP BD110 is the 4th BD player that I have bought in since 2007 (my 1st being the Panasonic DMP BD10A, second a Sharp HP20, 3rd a Panasonic DMP BD60). As you may be able to imagine, the last thing I really needed was another BD player, but, I just got a great deal on a 3D tv and, well, you know how it goes. :)

I am giving this product a qualified five stars, with this caveat: for majority of people, it could be well worth it to use up the extra money to buy the the next model up (the Panasonic DMP BDT210), which will include the wireless n wifi dongle. These two players are generally the same with the exemption of the dongle, many cosmetic differences and the motion sensor that opens the BD tray (not something I care for to be honest). For those buying the BDT110, if you don’t can access an ethernet connection for internet, you’ll be stuck purchasing a dongle for Panasonic’s excessive price (since no other dongles work). This is a big knock against this player that was pointed out by other reviewers. For my reasons, but, the BDT110 is just splendid since my router sits right behind my tv and I have it hooked up using an ethernet cable.

BD Playback Quality: To be just, with the current line of players from all the big brands have excellent BD playback and they all upscale dvd’s well. The technology improved and there’s no bad one in the bunch by video playback. Many players are faster at loading BD discs than others, with the Panasonic being on the fast side of this equation. 3D performance is excellent, though I can not say if that’s attributable to the TV (Panasonic L37DT30) or the player or many mix of both. I can say that the player is responsive and I have had no issues in two weeks that I owned it. Whatever problems the player had last spring have been completely resolved by firmware updates (which come regularly).

Viera Cast: The Viera Cast suite is great. My tv comes with viera cast also and you could think they could be the same. Amazingly, they aren’t. The variant used on the BD players is MUCH better. This is especially true for the Netflix application. The Netflix application on the BDT110 gives a search feature that lets you to search the complete Netflix database. You generally have the same access and control over content as you could on your computer. The Playback is smooth. Movies and shows, as well as HD content, load quickly and require little if any time for buffering. You may be able to skip scenes and the interface works likewise to the one on the Roku XD box excellent. It does not look as sexy as the interface on the Apple TV, but it’s more working. Also available is Instant, as well as free streaming for Prime members (like me). Excellent quality also and you can access the new movies and shows. The YouTube app is remaining, giving you access to your subscriptions, videos is generally a more complete than most apps you will find on mobile devices. I have not really used the Fox Sports App or played games on the player, but the Viera Cast system has many of possibly and it is quite remarkable.

The Remote: The remote is well thought out, with a dedicated netflix button (NICE!). The buttons may be a bit bigger though and less crowded. This is pretty common for BD players these days, which have certainly cheapened the quality of the remotes.

Playback of pictures and videos from an SDHC Card or USB drive: Again, a big improvement over the variant on panasonic tv. The files are layed out in an easy to search manner, line by line. The player can crunch through all the common formats, including: .Mkv, .Mov, .Mp4, .Avi, .Xvid, mpeg 2 etc. This player does stumble a bit on high bitrate .Mkv files in 1080p, but many media players have many issues with the files (some can not play them at all). Most of us will use 720p .Mkv files nevertheless and they are no problem at all. Photo playback in .Jpg are no problem, photos are easy to search for, load quickly and look great!

Word of Caution: be aware that if you’re purchasing this player to play 3d Movies and content and you don’t have receiver (AVR) that’s HDMI 1.4 compliant (in other words, 3D ready), you’ll have to run the HDMI cable straight to the tv , then run a toslink (optical cable) to the receiver for sound. That means that if you don’t have a 3d prepared receiver and are using this player for 3d content, you won’t be able to play 3d content through the receiver. Moreover, being restricted to the optical cable for the audio feed means that you won’t be able to use the lossless audio formats on the disks (i.E., no Dolby TrueHd, DTS MA etc.). This isn’t a big deal for my set up, but many people will surely be disappointed. Panasonic has a solution. The BDT310, which costs around $200 on Amazon, has two HDMI outputs, one for video to the TV and one for audio to the receiver. If you have a non 3d receiver and must have 3d and hi def audio, this is most likely your best choice (or you may be able to purchase a new receiver which will cost many more than the BDT310). Just many food for thought. Also note that this is an issue with 3d playback through HDMI 1.3 receivers and isn’t distinctive to Panasonic. It effects ALL 3D BD players so no stars are going to be subtracted. If you don’t care about the 3d playback and just intend to use the player as a regular BD non 3d player it’ll function like any other BD player and you may be able to run the hdmi directly to the AVR as common and get lossless sound formats so for you people who haven’t still adopted 3d technology, you may be able to ignore this paragraph.

In short, this is an excellent choice in BD player, especially if you do not need wifi included. If you do need wifi access, the BDT210 is the better value. With that caveat, I give the BDT110 five stars.

EDIT 6/22/11: I have been using the BDT110 for a couple of months now and I continue to take pleasure in the player greatly. I have only watched 15 or so BD disks and a few of DVDS. I have had no issue at all with playback and the image and sound quality have been more than acceptable. I’m continuing to take pleasure in streaming apps from Netflix and Amazon, most likely for more than an hour or two a day. Both apps worked flawlessly. I have also been using the player to view home videos of my eleven week old that I shoot with Sony HX9V cameras in completely 1080p at 60fps in AVCHD format (28mbps). This profile is beyond bluray, which restricted to 1080i at 60fps at 24mbps (or 1080p at 30fps or 24fps). Again, I have had no issue at all with playback. I’m very impressed with the image processing power of this player. If I could give this line of players from Panasonic a 6th star, I could.

5.0 out of five stars Becoming more happy every day., March 14, 2011
By John L. Thompson “A/V Geek” (Sykesville, MD United States) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Panasonic DMP BDT110 Wi Fi prepared 3D/2D Blu ray Disc Player (Electronics) 1st of all, I really hate the saying ‘WiFi Ready’ Which says to me. It’s prepared for WiFi.. all you need is WiFi. Of course that is not the case. It just means that it has a USB port and many on board drivers to assist you part with $80 for the WiFi adapter. Save yourself many aggravation and check out the NETGEAR Home Theater Internet Connection Kit (Black). It’s faster than WiFi and will work with your next Blu Ray player too. Not to talk about your xbox, networked TV, etc.

Anyway.. When I 1st hooked up the player the 1st thing that naturally occurs is the setup. Wow. It was grainy and awful looking. I has been worried. Of course this has been hooked up to a brand new Panasonic VIERA TC P42G25 42 Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV, and I hadn’t refined all of the light, Contrast, Color, Tint, etc. Settings still. So I put in a BD and things looked good. Not great. But good. After a couple more days of tweaking the TV I came back to do many more hands on testing of the BD and Viera Cast functions. My kids watched the Cars BD, and it looked FABULOUS! Of course that disc generally looks good, on an old broken TV. Was not sold. Then that evening my wife and I had rented The American on DVD. This is when I got really impressed. The DVD up conversion was really amazing. If I hadn’t recognized better, I could have thought this was a BD. Then I resumed looking at the Viera Cast apps. I have not looked at Netflix since that’s on the Panasonic TV, but I was really impressed with VuDu. The full 1080p and Dolby Plus 5.1 signal was great. The picture stunned, and it starts streaming fast. With no artifacts that I have seen. Rental prices were a little steep, but despite I has been impressed.

Other things vital to possible purchasers. It loads fast. There are alternatives to decrease startup times too. This is great, because when I use my other BD player to play a movie for my kids, they have lost interest by the time the player loads the film. Another nice feature is the VieraLink. This makes it work well with at least Panasonic sets. When I turn on the player, my TV switches to the correct input automatically. Nice. When I turn off my TV, it’ll automatically power down the BD player. Also nice.

I have not tested any 3D content on the disc player still. So I can not comment on that. But I imagine it’ll be stunning since it handles other BD content well.

Cons: This is really a con I guess, but more of a CONcern. The front fascia, is a big plastic door. I just have a feeling that one day a child will rip it off. Will not be the end of the world, but it just looks a little unneeded. But I guess if it guards the buttons from peanut butter etc.. for a while it is really a plus. We will see.

5.0 out of five stars Fantastic!!!, June 1, 2011
By R. L. Frank See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Panasonic DMP BDT110 Wi Fi prepared 3D/2D Blu ray Disc Player (Electronics) I tested the unit with a Panasonic VIERA TC P54VT25 3D plasma set.

First, let us deal with many of the negative comments in other reviews.

After upgrading the firmware to variant 1.63, Netflix streams with no problem.
The 3D variant of Avatar, plays just good.

I have not seen many of people testing the 2D to 3D conversion, so I gave it a attempt. I 1st tried it on a DVD variant of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. The opening fight scene looked great and gave the impression of depth that isn’t obvious in 2D. While the 3D look isn’t as “obvious” as that of a 3D disc, the feeling of depth makes the movie more enjoyable. I then tried comparing the 2D and 3D blu ray variants of Avatar. Using the 2D variant transformed to 3D gave added dimension to the film, most observably when the background and foreground were far separately. The drop floating in the cryo unit at the beginning of the film, doesn’t stand out as much as the true 3D variant. Still, when Jake’s cryo unit opens against the background of the ship’s interior, the depth you perceive is quite good.

2D to 3D conversion will never be as good as what a 3D disc can accomplish, but if you have a big group of 2D action and adventure type movies, it is a great feature.

4.0 out of five stars Easy to use, DLNA takes many work, March 13, 2011
By Dr. Woo (Schnecksville, PA USA) See all my reviews This review is from: Panasonic DMP BD75 Ultra Fast Booting Blu ray Disc Player (Electronics) I have been waiting for this Blu ray player since it was declared in January, bought this to use with my Panasonic VIERA TV set. VIERA link is the major reason I bought this it is for our exercise room, and my wife hates all the remotes. Great as a basic DVD/blu ray player. Pop in a DVD, TV turns on, and sets the correct input. As well, one button selection of Netflix works great, and the new Netflix interface will include search. On screen interface is nice and easy to use. As will all new players, only has HDMI and composite video connectors, but single HDMI for video and audio is nice and is needed for VIERA link.

Only reason for the four stars is DLNA (which in not just an issue with this device). Writing this in the hopes of saving at least one person the hours I spent setting this up. 1st, with my Windows seven PC, the device was able to see and play the Windows Media Center .Wtv files (I have a TV tuner card in my PC), so you may be able to record shows on your PC and watch them on this player in another room. Compatibility with .Wtv files wasn’t mentioned in the manual, nor by Panasonic online support. Panasonic support also said that .Mkv files could only play via a disk or the usb, but many of my .Mkv files on my PC did play using DLNA (for many reason, only the files with an part percentage of 1024X576 or higher will play). Decided I needed a media server.

After trying Tversity, Playon, and Serviio, none of which could work with the DMP BD75, I installed Mezzmo on my PC. Worked like a champ! The player sees all the files on my PC and they play flawlessly over my home network.

Remote will only control TV volume, power, and input, if you switch to TV, you must switch remotes. Do not know why in TV mode the number keys could not function to enter a channel number. Still, the remote will control all disc functions, Netflix, and all my video files via DLNA. One thing with the remote and VIERA link, the big power button turns on the player and will also turn on the TV simultaneously. But, when you power down, using the big power button only turns off the player (which does seem right, you may want to leave the TV on). There’s a second power button for the TV. If you turn off that button, both with shut down.

Overall, for just under $100 you can not go wrong. And if you are not interested in DLNA or 3D, then this could be a five star player.

5.0 out of five stars Gorgeous Blu ray picture and Netflix streaming, April 16, 2011
By L. Anderson “vintage rocker” (Cape Cod, MA) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Panasonic DMP BD75 Ultra Fast Booting Blu ray Disc Player (Electronics) I have had this Bd75 for about a month now. When I 1st received it , I had problems. I primarily got this unit so I could stream Netflix movies, and wanted to have a Blu ray player to connect to my Panasonic TC L42U22 1080p LCD TV.
When the player chose to work, I has been overwhelmed by the great picture quality of this TV/Blu ray combo. But, the Bd75 had bugs, and if you are like me, if something does not work as it should right out of the box, chances are things are only going to get worse.
I decided that the Bd75 was so good at streaming Netflix movies that I could keep it, bugs and all.
Now for the really good news. I turned the unit on some days ago, and had a on screen message that there was a firmware update available. Variant 1.19 I let it download. It restarts itself after the download, and since then, NO bugs, freeze ups, or any other problems.
If this firmware update does its job, then this Bd75 player will be a steal at the $99.00 it sells for.

3.0 out of five stars do not purchase This for Video on Demand, March 30, 2011
By bobfromholland See all my reviews () This review is from: Panasonic DMP BD75 Ultra Fast Booting Blu ray Disc Player (Electronics) Panasonic says this player will not support Video on Demand as it doesn’t have VIERA Cast capability. There’s now no firmware update and they told me they do not expect to add this feature at some point either. It does support Netflix streaming.

I have since returned the DMP BD75 and bought a Panasonic DMP BD65 with VIERA Cast. The DMP BD65 works great and streams Video on Demand.

5.0 out of five stars Great Experience Streaming, Blu Ray & External File Playback, April 30, 2011
By Susurration “profmis” (PA United States) See all my reviews This review is from: LG BD670 3D Wireless Network Blu ray Disc Player with Smart TV (Electronics) Chose this model because it had streaming, DLNA, and wireless fitted (you do not need a separate dongle). I haven’t been disappointed in any of its functions. Wireless connectivity was a breeze setup was straightforward and this model accepts a 32 character WPA2 security key (unlike last LG TVs and Blu ray player models which were restricted to 18 20 characters, as I discovered when I bought a wireless dongle for our TV!). The wireless connection looks to be more stable than with the other wireless devices we have. I sometimes have to turn off and on again to get a connection on startup, but this is unsurprising given how flaky our router is . : )

Blu ray playback is really good. Our 1st Blu ray disc looked grainy and I was worried till I read different forum discussions that criticized this movie move. Many Blu ray movies are seemingly intentionally grainy because this duplicates the “film” experience that the director meant. You may be able to use the movie mode on your TV to decrease graininess as this lowers the sharpness setting. Our second Blu ray disc was really smooth and in depth, as were most of the other discs. Playback resolution is excellent, you may be able to see every pore on someone’s face and the depth of field is amazing. There were no stutters, freezes or glitches with any of the discs we played. DVD upscaling is good I decided it isn’t worth replacing any DVDs with Blu ray discs as the upscaled playback in 1080p looks just as good as Blu ray playback.

Wireless streaming from Netflix was totally painless, once I worked out that the “Netflix ESN” that the player gives in the network setup menu isn’t the code that you have to use for Netflix connection setup. You have to choose the LG Premium menu icon which accesses premium streaming services, choose Netflix and get the connection code from the setup menu there. Enter the code once on the Netflix web site (“Activate a Netflix prepared device” in your account settings) and Netflix streaming works automatically after that. Hopefully my experience will save other people hours of trying to connect with the wrong code! Netflix streaming is excellent quality, much better than broadcast TV for most shows. The player looks to stream seamlessly from Netflix with nearly no stutters or degraded resolution issues, for HD movies. The only issues I have seen are when my internet connection is congested (Comcast net access is pretty bad on Friday evenings and Saturdays in my area). I’m impressed.

A recent firmware update (April 2011) added Video on Demand, which also works great! it’s really cool to have these services. The device also offers Vudu, Pandora, Napster etc. But I have not used those. Firmware updates are easy, though these do take around 5 10 minutes to load via wireless connection you have to keep your nerve and not turn off the player, thinking nothing is happening. Sooner or later, you get a message saying that the download loaded and the player turns off and on again. If the download fails (which did happen once), the device isn’t influenced (good design).

I was really impressed by how painless it was to set up media streaming from a PC using DLNA. A copy of Nero Home Media Server essentials has been supplied on CD I installed this, the player automatically detected my PC and presented me with a list of files I could play from the media folder. This was so easy! DLNA file streaming worked brilliantly: I only experienced problems with one, big (10 GB) home movie file that stuttered and stopped. Then I discovered the USB connection on the right front panel of the player. I had been so taken with all of the streaming solutions that I overlooked the simplest way to play media files, which is from an external hard drive or flash drive! The BD670 played the big file from an external hard drive with no problems. Since then, the player played everything I have thrown at it: AVI and MKV, etc. Using lots of different codecs. With three firmware updates in the month that I owned it, I have many of confidence that it’s being updated constantly to play all of the new disc and file formats. So I’m a happy bunny indeed!

UPDATE: Hulu Plus just appeared on the premium services (network access) menu, as of the July 30th software update! I can not vouch for the quality, because I’m not a member. But the demo videos seem to play just good . : )

4.0 out of five stars A Couple Steps Up From the BD390, But Not Perfect. (Yet), June 1, 2011
By Hectic (AL, USA) See all my reviews This review is from: LG BD670 3D Wireless Network Blu ray Disc Player with Smart TV (Electronics) I bought this player a month ago and wanted to wait and get many plentiful use time with it before I left a review. The LG BD670 is my second standalone blu ray player, where my 1st was the LG BD390 (2009 model). (It also really says something when in 2009 I paid $330 for the BD390, still only two years afterward pay only $154 for the BD670.) I decided to go with LG again because of my experience with past performance and they give all the features I want. As with most blu ray players like this one firmware updates are a must, so once I got the player connected to my network (wireless) I got it updated to the new firmware. So far I’m pretty impressed with most, but not all parts of this player. There are three major looking at techniques I use to watch videos with this player: discs (30), USB (30) and streaming/wireless (40). I will give in depth reviews of these since they are what I use.

DISCS: With both the capability to stream AND watch video files via the USB port (as with the 390) I do not watch as many discs as I use to. There are now of course two types of video discs, DVD and blu ray. What many people do not understand is that DVD and blu ray are two totally different formats, each with there own disc format. The only thing that they have in common (besides playing A/V streams) is that they both have the same SIZE disc.
Blu rays: See UPDATES @ the end of my review about this! When I 1st watched a blu ray on my BD390 paired with my (then new) Vizio 42″ 1080p 120Hz HDTV I certainly saw the improvement over DVD with a much sharper, clearer picture with more detail. In fact it on occasion sucks to have that much detail for many of the older/low budget movies that I have on blu ray because it lets you to see just how bad many of the special effects were (wires, etc.)! I thought the picture could not get any better on my Vizio because I thought that what the BD390 gived it was as good as what the TV could produce. Well, when I watched many of my blu rays on the same TV with the BD670.It turned out I was wrong! This player gives obvious improvement when it comes to playing blu rays when in comparison to the BD390. The picture IS really sharper/clearer and the colors are more vibrant; not in any great, vast improvement kind of way, but it’s obvious. I have played about a dozen or so blu rays on it far, but it is been able to play them all without any problems whatsoever.Say for one title (so far). “Daybreakers”. I know this title plays just good because the disc could play in the 390. When I put this disc in to play in the 670, it starts to load up the major menu with its movie icon/progress bar, but then stops about 3/4 of the way through. But the sound will continue to play for the trailers with just a small patch of the video on the screen showing next to half of the logo. I “next track” all of the trailers to attempt and get to the menu (pressing the “disc menu” button only gives me the “circle cross” icon telling me it can not do that), but once I am past all the trailers and the menu is suppose to load up.Nothing. It just sits there and does not load up anything. I called LG to make them aware of this problem and the woman I talked to said she could pass along this information to their firmware dept. And look into fixing the problem. (Who knows how long that may take though?!) Hopefully this one title is a rarity, but it makes me wonder out of the over 100 titles on blu ray I do own and have still to play on this machine, how many of those may meet this same kind of problem?
DVD’s: See UPDATES @ the end of my review about this! amazingly, this unit has a slight problem when it comes to playing DVD’s! You think the one thing they could get right for this player is to play DVD’s with no problems whatsoever, but sadly no. The audio/video plays good, but every chapter change there’s a half second skip in the play (more for the audio than the video). It is barely obvious, but it’s obvious. It is not enough to really annoy me, but I can understand other people being bothered by it. If it happened more frequently in the play, then it could most likely get on my nerves more. This is a problem that LG is already aware of and says is working to fix in a future firmware update, but still I contacted them via email about this just to add my complaint to the list. Other than that there’s no other problems I have experienced. The audio/video quality is great and every single DVD loads up and plays, many region 0/PAL DVD’s I got from Australia.

USB: This is the major reason I bought and have stuck with the LG model blu ray players. I have lots of USB flash drives, not to talk about external HD’s where I have all my media files backed up on, other things I download from different resources. I just move them to a flash drive and plug it into the port and start watching. This player is a bit different from the 390 in that the USB, not the disc source is the major source it defaults to. I can have a disc already loaded in the unit when I turn it on, still if you have a USB drive plugged in, it’ll ask if you want to play something from that 1st instead of loading up the disc. So far, it played every single video file/format (.Mkv, .Mpeg, .Avi, .Mp4, .M4v) I have thrown at it with no problems at all. I LOVE this capability.

Streaming/Wireless: Not only does this unit have the USB port up front to play video/music/picture files off of external drives, but with the wireless it has the capability to use DLNA to stream media from your computer (which I have not messed with still.) This unit has dual band wireless, meaning it uses both 2.4Ghz and 5.8Ghz bands. This is particularly useful for those who have a dual band router (such as myself), so there’s less chance of a dropped connection or decrease in connection speed. Usually all of the streaming I do with the 670 is from LG’s Premium service, i.E. Netflix, Pandora, etc. This is certainly where the 670 improved over the 390 with many more services and better interfaces. The interface menu for Netflix has very improved from the 390 with more choices to look up movies and easier navigation of the “instant queue”. The only other Premium service I have used so far is Pandora which is nice too. I have still to attempt out any of the other services, and do not plan to for the foreseeable future. I’ll note that when I 1st did the firmware update (no problems) then loaded up the Premium service, it started to do an update for the program, but said it failed and just loaded up Premium as normal. The second time I loaded it up it attempted the update again and was successful. All of the movies I have streamed played good with no dropped connections/rebuffering and the quality was at least DVD or better.

Overall, for the time being, I am pleased with this player; but only with the understanding that the problems it has will be fixed in future firmware update(s). As these blu ray players get more and more complex with all the different features they have, it also means there is more chance for different and unforeseen bugs like the ones this player still suffers from will pop up, hence the need for the firmware updates. I know some people believe that they should be like the old DVD players and just work straight out of the box and I wish they did too. In a perfect world they could, but this is far from a perfect world is not it? These players are becoming more and more like computers, different hardware and software meant to work together to do certain tasks without errors or conflicts. But anybody with a computer knows that it is not that easy. I modify/upgrade hardware and many programs (software) on my system all the time and on occasion these changes cause conflicts. A change in hardware, with the new drivers can cause unforeseen problems with other hardware or software. A new update to a driver can cause the hardware it is suppose to enhance to work less proficiently or program update can cause conflicts with other software. Most of the time this does not happen or may be easily resolved, but on occasion it does. This is the same for these new players. A firmware update meant to fix one issue can cause another. The businesses that make these players can only do so much beta testing before they have to release them into the real world. That’s when we, the buyer whom these devices are meant for, put them through their real world paces that the maker simply can not do. There are so many variations (different DVD’s, blu rays, vidoe files, streaming, etc.) made by different studios and other businesses that all use different manufacturing/specification standards that it could be virtually impossible for the manufacturers to attempt and test them all on these players, when they themselves have their own standards and plans. Read reviews for any other blu ray player out there now and I defy you to find one single player that has no complaints against it. I am not trying to defend this players shortcomings, I am just saying I understand (more than many people) why they exist and simultaneously am trying to make other people understand why they exist.

With this review I’m trying to tell you, the buyer about this player. It’s a good player and will be an better one once these small problems it has are fixed in firmware updates. If you purchase this player now, be aware of the aforementioned problems and be patient for the firmware fixes. If you’re turned off by these problems I experienced or problems mentioned by other reviewers which I haven’t experienced; either wait till these problems have been addressed to buy or simply look into purchasing a different player. Once firmware for these problems have been. Read more ›

4.0 out of five stars good support samba linux mediatomb netflix vod pandora, April 11, 2011
By jerry uanino (shelton, Connecticut United States) See all my reviews () This review is from: LG BD670 3D Wireless Network Blu ray Disc Player with Smart TV (Electronics) Upsides: Pandora works nicely. Many other nice internet radio alternatives.
Netflix interface decent.
The best thing here is the SAMBA, CIFs or Windows file sharing (Whatever you call it) is nice. Works good with Linux, works good with MediaTomb upnp server. Could not find right transcoding alternatives, but did not need it. Good with mp4′s ripped h.264 and does mp3. Plays flip video files natively no problem. Pause, rewind, fast forward over streaming (cifs or upnp).
LCD display shows timecode when playing streams from samba or upnp.
Bought device to have single device for netflix and home media serving.
Plays mp3′s nicely.
Better than ROKU for me since it does SAMBA and UPNP for home streaming, was not clear if Roku did that.
Wi FI, wired.
Oh, and it plays BD’s too, I tested one, but not my main reason for buy.
Unit stays cool, is nice and small and does what I need.

Downsides: no screensaver in pandora, fearing burn in.
Menus kind of laggy.
No progress meter when updating firmware. LCD indicates updating but should have separate downloading and applying progress when installing firmware. Have seen samsung do this better with progress meter.

I’d like to add a special item here. LG you did this properly you have a sticker for support on the device. Wow. I love you. I called, human answers. No hold time. Sat, Sun, no problem. I had an issue with firmware 268.E inside three days there was a new 270 something to correct. 268.E added VOD for me and the other nifty things. Support was friendly, apologized and was nice to work with. I have never owned home electronics where they really had a support line with humans. And the humans called you back with updates on your problem!

First LG device I own. Mad props for the useful human support!
