5.0 out of five stars great picture and unbelievable sound!, May 23, 2011
By T. Black (Charleston, SC) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Panasonic DMP BDT310 Integrated Wi Fi 3D Blu ray DVD Player (Electronics) I have had a weekend to play with the 310, and was impressed with picture and sound quality. For the record, this is my 1st Blu ray player, and I think it was worth the wait. With this player, BD’s load as quickly as DVD’s do on my Denon DVD 1920.

It is almost same to the 210, except it has a second HDMI output so you may be able to bring HD audio into your non 3D ready receiver. If your receiver has HDMI specification 1.4 (or if you do not care about 3D), then go with the 210.

The setup procedure was simple with the exemption of the trial and error procedure of to get the right audio signal to my receiver. 1st, be sure that you send the ‘main’ HDMI to the TV and the ‘sub’ HDMI to your receiver. To get full resolution, surround sound audio out of the second HDMI output you’ll have to disable the second video signal. Which means no video going to your receiver. This is less than ideal since I’ll rarely be watching 3D content and could have favored to path video through the AVR most of the time for simplicity. I guess they set it up this way to save some pennies per unit but it stinks.

I watched a couple of movies so far, and was really blown away by the sound. I do not want to neglect the picture quality here, but honestly while the picture was quite clear and in depth, it did not affect me quite as hard as the jump in sound quality did. I most likely fall into the audiophile group, and invested many in my surround sound system. The clearness of the dialog, and the raw affect of the effects and soundtrack are really remaining.

Some Blu ray discs (including the two I watched) include DTS HD Master audio tracks. To compare, the audio on DVD’s tops out at 448kbps (data move rate) and standard Dolby Digital on Blu rays is about 40 better at 640kbps. But DTS HD Master streams at 25Mbps (25,000kbps). That’s 50 times as much detail in the audio signal! Check for the DTS HD Master logo on the back when you purchase or rent BD’s.

To enjoy the DTS HD Master audio stream, you’ll need a receiver that can decode the digital stream. Since the new panasonic blu ray players do not have 5.1 analog outputs, you’ll have to use the HDMI cable to send the digital signal to your receiver for processing.

I will most likely do a bit more tweaking with the settings, and as I learn more I’ll update my review. I’ll play around with 3D soon, as my glasses should arrive tomorrow. I also don’t have Netflix now but plan to add it at some point.

All and all, I could not be happier that I chose this player as my 1st dive into Blu ray. It is not as big a jump as VHS to DVD was, but if you want to take full benefit of your flat screen HDTV or surround sound setup then I greatly recommend taking the plunge.

Source: wikipedia “Comparison of high meaning optical disc formats”

Here is a tidbit from the Netflix blog “Currently, our top HD streams are about 4800 kilobits per second” (kbps). If you’re picky about your picture or sound, think about that this is about half the fidelity as a regular DVD. I am not a netflix hater, and I will join for the unmatched convenience but this is one reason I have not joined still. Low fi is good for sitcoms and cartoons but for movies and shows like Lost and Heroes, quality trumps convenience in my living room.

UPDATE
Still loving this player. It’s fast to start up, and resumes playback on discs that do not have blu ray live content (such as ads on the menu screens..yuck!)

I have also joined Netflix and tried out a couple of streams. One was a Thomas the Train movie for the kiddo. The SD picture was okay, but motion was jumpy (really bad with moving trains!). We’re now watching Heroes S4 in Blu ray. The other night we finished a disc and wanted to watch another episode so I streamed it in Netflix HD with 5.1 Dolby Digital. The picture was quite good, though clearly not as crisp as the 1080p from the Blu ray. Same was true with the audio. The dialog was not quite as clear and we had to turn it up a bit louder to catch everything that was said. Missed out on many of the “thereness” experience of Blu Ray discs, but still quite good. Think about this is coming from a certified audiophile, my wife did not notice the difference (but asked me to turn it up and rewind so she could hear the dialog).

This player continues to impress me with its features. On my son’s ‘movie night’ we pulled up youtube, watched many trailers of four or five kids movies, and let him decide which one he wanted to watch. Jumped straight over to netflix (dedicated button on remote, but you must be on the home screen (?) for it to work) and had the movie running by the time the popcorn has been finished popping! nice!! Still greatly recommended

UPDATE
Update on the ‘resume’ feature of Blu Rays. Since discs with online content will not automatically resume, many studio (ABC?) has create a nice feature (I forget what it is called!). The only disc I have seen this on is Lost season 5. It lets you to set up a viewer profile (takes five seconds), and when you get to the major menu there’s an choice to continue where you left off. I have not tried it with many profiles, but that’s a nice feature for if the wife and I watched it individually. Another nice feature is when you finish a disc and put the next one in now, it’ll skip all the legal stuff/menus and jump straight into the next episode! Nice!! Too bad this is not standard!?!

5.0 out of five stars Great player, for us in 2D!, June 4, 2011
By Michael Dixon “Composer” See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Panasonic DMP BDT310 Integrated Wi Fi 3D Blu ray DVD Player (Electronics) Using this blu ray player with a non 3D HDTV and a Sony receiver that does not handle 3D signal passthrough but does playback HD sound, I was a bit worried about the 2nd HDMI connection for legacy receivers like mine. No worries, I just used the HDMI major out to the receiver’s HDMI input, then the receiver’s HDMI output to the HDTV. Worked good, but to get HD audio, I had to switch the audio to PCM, not bitstream. The reason I bring this up is because the information ignore those who do not have a 3D HDTV. But this works good without 3D.

“Easy Setup” involved place of my wireless network and some other minor settings. Easy setup was really easy. I went straight to the setting to upgrade the firmware. Updating the firmware (highly recommended) which took about ten minutes total, is essential for correct function. I can not emphasize this enough.

Pressed the red Netflix button on the remote, and it took me to the major VieraCast screen. It does this only the 1st time, since you must agree to many terms and log into your Netflix account. Easy to do, no issues (firmware 1.6.3 needed for smooth operation). On my 802.11n wireless network, HD Netflix movies played okay, except for some black flashes. Can not imagine that being my network. Also tried Pandora and it worked flawlessly. Weather was quite nice, as was some number of other apps. Nice collection, and VieraCast menu is easy to customize. Did not attempt Skype. Gotta purchase Panasonic’s cam? Forget it.

Blu ray 2D was gorgeous and disc boot up was faster than Playstation 3. Believe it. That’s, if you enable the fast start feature, which makes the player use a bit more electricity. HD audio was supreme, but had to change the audio setting to PCM output from the Panasonic. My 1st test disc was Billy Joel Live in Shea (2011 release). Have not tried a DVD still, but I anticipate the common.

I do not have 3D anything, but wanted a new blu ray player to decrease use of my Playstation three and its noisy fan. This Panasonic is calm, fast, tiny, and works with old and new. If this 3D thing does become mainstream, at least I’m future proofed with this player. Greatly suggested.

3.0 out of five stars Good player but there are many things you have to know, June 13, 2011
By dvdeo See all my reviews This review is from: Panasonic DMP BDT310 Integrated Wi Fi 3D Blu ray DVD Player (Electronics) I expected to replace my media player (ASUS) using this one. I thought that it’ll be faster, easier to use and could support everything I need. So to cut the cr here are pros and cons.
PROS:
Fast. Boot, MKV rewind, Network Access.
HDMI CEC with Viera TV works perfectly! there’s more than it is needed as indicated by CEC standard. Navigation, alternatives works using TV remote.
Works good with Windows seven shared folders and DLNA.
I thought touchless sensor isn’t relevant, but my kids like it many and they don’t touch the equipment :)
MKV and DTS mixes are supported.
SETUP IS EASY. If you have normal TV (HDMI CEC and HDMI ARC) then setup of TV/AV Receiver/Player may be done using wizard. No extra settings have to be changed.
Choice to turn off TV while playing music. Works properly and doesn’t turn off AV receiver.
BD RE with movies works good.
Totally silent. That’s awesome.

CONS:
“Play to” aka Media Renderer function is buggy or maybe it’s router. Do not know. Stops playing after couple of minutes
No MPEG2 support in MKV.
USB supports only divx and mkv videos. That’s nonsense, cause to backup your DVD collection you’ll need pay extra $ to divx. This is hidden and you’ll discover the fact only when you purchase the player.
It’s nonsense that there are different formats supported on BD RE and BD R disks. MKV isn’t supported on BD RE. VOB files aren’t recognized on BD RE, though they assert that “Video” is supported on DVD/BD R/BD RE discs.
USB sticks with exFAT aren’t supported. If you have bigger file you’ll have to purchase costly SDHC cards or use hard drive. It’s stupid, but USB HDD with exFAT are supported, but USB sticks aren’t.
No MKV chapter navigation, so you must rewind the video.
Changing subtitles or audio channels is incovenient. Really inconvenient.

Overall: Good quality and nearly easy to operate, but inconsistent/incomplete format/external device support.

UPDATE AFTER 2011 09 firmware:
+ Now it has normal support for MPEG two in MKV with many audio tracks and many subtitles. There’s still no support for PGS subtitles and chapter navigation, but player now seem to disregard unsupported things instead of throwing error messages.
+ it looks that “Play to” bugs are gone, but it’s hard to say for sure.
MKV with VC 1 streams still not supported
HDMV PGS subtitles in MKV aren’t supported.
“Play to” works with LAN cable only. This just does not seem right. Why could you pay extra money for integrated wifi if you still need cable.

5.0 out of five stars Fast loading for Blu Ray and really excels at local media playback!, April 18, 2011
By Marty Gillis (Los Angeles, CA USA) See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) This review is from: LG BD630 Network Blu ray Disc Player (Electronics) I was pleasantly surprised with the LG BD630! You get a whole LOT for the money! I’m going to attempt and pick this thing separately somewhat in this review , if you’re interested then Read On Mc Duff!

I bought this unit for my 81 year old father who has taken to watching Xvid and MKV files from the internet, typically documentaries on WW2 and other history programs. Of course he also watches DVD’s but hasn’t till now delved into Blu Ray or Netflix streaming. I needed something for him that had a easy to follow menu system and worked WELL with a minimum of glitches.

The player itself is basic on the outside. The BD630 features an on/off , eject, play/pause and stop buttons on it is face and a USB slot covered with a little rubber trap door on the right hand side with the disc drawer in the center. It does not exactly exude high build quality on 1st glance, but what makes this little player SO good is the software inside. (more on that soon) Mind you, it is not totally cheap looking and as the saying goes good things can and DO come in small packages.

This is a small (not deep) unit and also a lightweight one. It came filled with a decent PRINTED manual , basic cabling (you will need an HDMI or part cable) and a working remote that uses only one AAA cell, also included. It comes with a couple of printed adverts for Netflix and a small sticker on the top of the unit that screams NETFLIX at you. (easily removed) The power cable is attached. You get composite video out, stereo RCA audio outs , part Video and HDMI Out , a Coax audio out and a LAN port for connecting to your home network if you want to use the Netcast features like Netflix and You Tube.

Being at the low end of the LG food chain, this specific player isn’t DLNA enabled and to play your video files (other than blu ray and DVD) you have to stream from a USB device be it a thumb drive or external hard drive. You can’t connect this unit via the Ethernet connection to your computer. LG starts as well as THAT feature some more models UP from this one. I guess that’s understandable given the price point.

The connectivity is good really, you may be able to use this device with everything from an analogue standard TV all the way up to 1080p HDTV and your audio alternatives are just as good with the analogue stereo outs, or the Coax digital which can handle up to 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS and the HDMI which can pass thru the uncompressed Dolby TruHD or DTS Master Audio tracks that accompany most of the blu ray releases. You may be able to set the Video output to go with your TV resolution, set picture part percentage to play 4:3 programs as is or to stretch them to fill your screen. The USB port may be used to connect a USB thumb drive or an external hard drive. It is not too picky about the formatting of the drive and may also support up to four drive partitions. That alone is amazing for the price and a nice touch.

This brings me to my 1st and only big complaint about this machine. It’s SO lightweight than when you plug in your USB drive or cable to it, the unit itself tends to push backwards. Possibly adding many non slip little rubber feet to the bottom with a couple drops of super glue could easily crack that.

Just be aware that if you aren’t cautious, you run the risk of knocking the thing over when accessing that feature. Note: To access any BD Live features you may wish to download and view, a USB drive is needed as there seemingly is minimal onboard memory. I personally disable BD Live on every machine I have as this tends to slow loading times.

Set up took less than two minutes after connections were made. The machine boots quickly. Easily as quickly as my Oppo BDP 80. Things got interesting when I loaded a Java heavy Blu Ray disc and it loaded quickly. I can honestly say this machine loads a Blu Ray disc FASTER than my Oppo (a nice fast machine) and that blew me away just to see it happen. Playback was as projected. GREAT! DVD up conversion to 1080p was average for a new machine today, but better than average for machines only a year or so old. And the disc tray itself is hard and goes in and out without any sort of deafening rattle of worrisome grinding noises. (a complaint for many Oppo BDP 80 and 83 users)

The Netflix GUI is about the same as on the current crop of LG TV’s. Your performance is going to rely more on your internet connection and speed than the LG software which I believe is good. Navigating my Instant Queue was a bit sluggish but I have the same problem on ANY of my Netflix enabled devices. Once you start playback and it loads, things work just the way you could expect and want them to.

It is noteworthy to talk about I had NO problems at all playing DVD R and CD R discs. Discs containing Xvid and other video file types also loaded quickly and played perfectly. Just for fun I put in a region free friend disc and it spit it back out with an on screen message telling me it was the wrong region. (I had to try) So just, this thing will play ANYTHING I or my Dad owns EXCEPT for friend. OH well, you can not have everything!

Basically, it works and works well. You may be able to update the firmware via the LAN port or with downloading from the LG site and burning a disc or putting it on a USB drive which is what I did before attempting to play anything. Time will tell if LG continues to support this machine with more firmware updates as they become required to play many of the more Java intensive titles like the new Alien discs. If updating firmware intimidates you, find someone you know who is an old hand at it and let THEM do it so you do not accidentally ‘brick’ your player. Really, it is not that hard. (just do not turn the machine off while updating)

I personally own an LG 47 inch LE 5400 TV and as projected the software in the BD630 is nearly same for playing computer files, mp3′s looking at photos, etc. IN many parts , they improved the software and I was duly impressed. It’s smooth, easy to see what you’re doing with logically laid out screens , easy to recognize the individual file names and the transport controls are hard and responsive when playing everything from an Xvid to a 720p or 1080i Mkv file. We did not have any 1080p files to test so I can only speak for the others. They all loaded reasonable fast and played glitch free. Pause and resume worked perfectly. You may be able to access the information screen while playing the file. Audio synch was a non issue. Just this is everything a person could want in local media file playback. (6 7 11 EXCEPT playing Divx files, see my update below) attempt as I could, I encountered NO glitches of any type other than having to set our Harmony remote answer time to shorter as it gived double commands for the left and right direction buttons.

Just the local media file playing capability of this unit alone is worth the buy price. Add THAT with great Blu Ray playback, fast loading times (depends on the Blu Ray title as many discs will load quicker than others) more than decent DVD up conversion , Netflix streaming and more and I think LG has a winner at a price point you just can not argue with. I remember just some years ago Sony selled their flagship Blu Ray Player for 999.00 and it did not do 25 of what THIS machine can do. Good stuff and a FULL one year warranty for Parts AND Labor!

Oh yeah, my 81 year old father is having NO trouble making this thing work at all. I just caught him playing a HD video file that he had loaded himself and I thought to myself “now that’s user friendly” !! If I run into any future problems or software glitches with this thing I’ll update this review and add whatever else I learned.

UPDATE 5 13 11 The LG is still going strong. We have still to run into any file that won’t play and unlike many reviewers haven’t experienced any player malfunctions with standard DVD playback as well as my Lord of The Rings expanded editions. NO freezes, disc jams or failing to loads encountered so far. I still stand by my earlier declaration about the Blu Ray disc load times. They’re faster than my Oppo BDP 80 which is pretty fast to start with.

IMPORTANT UPDATE 6 7 11 I learned the hard way last night that this player doesn’t support any Divx files. I should have read the specification sheet more carefully as they don’t list Divx as a supported codec. If you want to play any Divx encoded files you’ll have to ‘trans code’ them using a program like ‘Handbrake’ or ‘Any Video Converter’ which is MY favorite (freeware) and change it into a codec the player DOES recognize. I has been surprised to find this out as my LG HDTV WILL PLAY files with the Divx file extension. Go figure! SO FAR this is the ONLY kind of video file I have run into that won’t play. (Apparently LG did not want to pay the licensing fee to Divx)

FINAL UPDATE 9 20 11 Just wanted to say this LG player is still going strong and plays the new Blu Ray Star Wars set without issue or glitch. For the money I am convinced it is a real bargain. My 81 year father was happily playing Xvids, MKV and H264 files easily like he was doing it all his life and hasn’t once come to me for any help with a disc or file that will not load. I bought this same player for my lady friend and she gives me nothing but glowing reports. As with all electronics I’m sure at many point it’ll be out of date, but for now it’s a hard contender and I stand by my full review. Cheers! Marty Gillis

2.0 out of five stars could be great if network connection worked, May 14, 2011
By Paul Kimelman (Alamo, CA USA) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: LG BD630 Network Blu ray Disc Player (Electronics) I bought this player to replace an present BR player because I wanted the Netflix streaming. That worked perfectly when I got it and we used it for six weeks with no problems.
Then, it decided to update the firmware. Now it’ll not connect on the network. It has no error messages, nothing you may be able to change (other than static IP), and you can not revert the firmware.
I contacted LG, who are good about answering the phone. They admitted that many firmware variant had a problem and had me manually upgrade. That didn’t help.
I contacted Netgear and through the logs from the router, they say the player is generating many of crc errors.
I contacted LG again and they had me send it to them. They sent it back with a note saying that they saw no problem. I tried it and still no luck. It’s worthless for the function.
I dont have idea if this could work better with another vendor’s networking, but I have 20 different types of devices connected wired and wirelessly with no problem (from PCs and Macs to PS3s and Wiis and music players and mobile devices). I believe that LG has made many awful change in their firmware but won’t own up to it.
So, be forewarned and be cautious about taking any new firmware from LG.
NEW INFO: after to get a network snooper, I was able to see that the LG is using bad DHCP messages. Many routers can accept them, but the netgear can not (and I suspect others can not either). I switched to static IP (and setup the assignment in the router) and now it works. You shouldn’t have to do that, but that’s what it took.

5.0 out of five stars great Deal!!!!!, March 19, 2011
By Scuba Paris (USA) See all my reviews () This review is from: LG BD630 Network Blu ray Disc Player (Electronics) Great deal for only $125. Set up is way to easy. Input the HDMI cable in, input the ethernet cable in and input the power in. Turn on the Blue ray and you’re prepared to go. The menu is user friendly. Movies look great. Regular and blue ray movies.
The interface working with Netflix is top notch. It offers the instant queue and all other choices like your on the computer. Loads quickly with very clear picture.

5.0 out of five stars Still Smiling Beat all expectations, April 7, 2011
By C. James See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Panasonic DMP BDT210 Integrated Wi Fi 3D Blu ray DVD Player (Electronics) To give a frame of reference, I replaced a Panasonic BD35 with this Panasonic DMP BDT210 it’s hooked to a Sony HD AV 7.1 receiver and to a Panasonic 50″ Plasma TV, and I have a LinkSys Wireless Router (802.11n).

It arrived today and I opened the box at about 6PM, prepared for what I projected goed to a long night, just looks to typically work out that way these days, figured it could be issues with to get it on the network, so I started in.

Nothing difficult for my hook up, just one HDMI connection to the receiver and I used the one that was there from the BD35, and the power cord, that was it for wires.

Put the batts (supplied) in the remote and turned it on, pops up quickly to an Easy Set Up menu that you may get through in some seconds and start playing Blu ray DVD’s. I wanted to hook it to the network and I generally like to look around at the alternatives, so I opted to go to the other set up menu.

The Easy Set up takes you to the choice to set up a network connection, if you aren’t going to use the network features you may be able to just pick no and you’re prepared to watch a Blu ray movie. I opted to set up the network and this is what I thought goed to be the hard part, it asked, wired or wireless, I picked wireless, it found my network in about 15 seconds and put the name on the screen, I picked it and it knew it was a secure/encrypted network connection so it asked for the password, and put up a keyboard to put it in.

Once I gave it the password it started trying to connect to the network, a screen pops up with some pass/fail tests it’s running, that took another 15 seconds to pass them all.

The rest of set up may be skipped for the most part based on your connection to the TV or in my case the player to the receiver and receiver to the TV through HDMI connections, so it knew the potential of the TV and set everything right.

If you want to more personalize it or have to set the screen size (standard/wide) then Set Up offers that an some other alternatives, like parental control, the display light, some audio alternatives and 3D and 2D video alternatives, all in all nice set of alternatives and again, most never need be messed with if you do not want to, it tries to optimize itself. (Also, no matter how bad you mess it it, you may be able to just tell it to go back to factory settings and do it again)

After spending about five minutes in set up doing the network and looking around I had to pop in a disc and see how it looked and sounded. I didn’t really expect a noticable difference from my old one in picture and sound, and possibly it’s just percerption, but both seemed better to me.

However what you notice 1st is the speed it loads the disc, it’s fast. The BD35 was slow, so slow I could rather watch a bad movie than change discs, I had put in Tron 3D as the 1st test, killer, video and audio, and effects. Next, I put in Tron in 2D and tried the 2D to 3D, interesting and efficient, looked pretty good but I’m not a big 3D fan. There are settings the change the 3D effects.

Next, I went to 2D and again the audio and video were just remaining, not that the old one was bad at all, this was just better, enough to notice. So for picture and sound it’s five stars all the way for the price.

The menu navigation is clean and easy to follow while in the Panasonic menus, and fast, navigating the disc is fast, more that fast enough to make those alternatives worth it. So in general navigation and easy of use I have to also give a 5.

Now for something I hadn’t tried before on my TV other than Pay Per View via cable, I hit the VeraCast and there was YouTube, Amazon, NetFlix, VuDu, and a bunch of others. I tried out 1st and watched a free show, no issues at all. It played perfectly, no picture snags, stops, buffering, audio dropouts, it played also as from the cable box. Same for NetFlix, the stuff all played good.

I did notice sluggish menus while on the Internet Movie sites, it was clear that it wasn’t the unit but the sites, and then by sluggish I mean some seconds delay on many selections, not like my old unit sometheds could take some minutes.

So five stars on the internet movie, tv, and info features.

I guess no review could be complete with a unit with the capability to wave your hand over the top of the player to open and close the drawer, so here is its honorable talk about, it works.

Well my prediction of spending half the night (3 hours) was correct, but it wasn’t in to get it to work, it watched YouTube and video’s, and parts of some movies. A enjoyable evening.

Overall I give this a hard 5, there nothed I could find to knock it down, it was easy to set up, easy to use, and remaining performance and features.

5.0 out of five stars Great Player for the new model year 2011, March 1, 2011
By D. Regal “Online buying Dude” (Hugo, MN, US) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Panasonic DMP BDT210 Integrated Wi Fi 3D Blu ray DVD Player (Electronics) The player is great. The menu system is the best I have used in a player and I returned both a Sony BD560 and a Samsung 6500 before to get this unit. Just some notes for those that may be thinking of to get it this player.
#1 The internet alternatives are broad, new alternatives to me like streaming and Skype, mixed with the mainstay apps like Netflix, Pandora, and many more. Make this player nice to the streaming and online entertainment user.

#2 The firmware the unit now comes with won’t let you get into the Internet streaming apps or anything till you update the firmware. Updating the firmware from the 1.09 firmware it comes with won’t work as of this date via wireless or wired internet connections. The secondary choice is to burn the frmware to a disc. This you think could be straight foward, but it is not. Using Windows seven or Vista, you have to create an ISO 9660 ONLY. I went through three coasters before this player could properly read the Firmware update disc I produced to bring it up to 1.47. Using any other ISO format will fail.

#3, Netflix. I have two accounts, one old, one new and active. Got them mixed up throughout the install procedure and had my OLD netflix account generally bound to the unit. No way to empty the cache, or sign out and login with a new username and password (It does not use the code on screen technique like many of players, you really log into netflix from the machine) To clean out the incorrect netflix ID, I had to factory reset the Blu Ray player. Which meant setting everything up again. My shared drives (You can map a shared folder on your network to play files, nice) Wireless, everything had to be set up again.

#4 No on board memory. It supports SD cards for Storage for Blu Ray online features and other apps, but it has no storage of own. I personally found this to be nice, particularly given I have many SD cards laying around from one to eight gigs in size. But if you want to take full benefit of extras on Blue Rays, add the cost of an SD card to your price (Or possibly USB thumb drive??? Have not tested) to have on board storage.

This player is fast, has an remaining menu system. A dependable network interface (Take note Samsung!) and has many nice next gen features like touch less ejecting, kind of novel, but I did find myself liking it.. having come from the Samsung 6500 just newly, I found the fact that the player keeps you up to date with on screen displays as to what it’s doing if their are the common loading delays when 1st starting Blu Rays for example, a nice change from the black of screen of inquiring I generally had with the Samsung model. And Sony’s 560 had a lame netflix interface so that was not an choice for me after seeing it, given I use streaming many.
For the 2011 models, I’d like to see the offerings from the competitors before I whole heartily recommend this one, but I am happy with my buy. Panasonic looks to know what they’re doing with UI’s, UI user Feedback and general tech savyness in their Blu Ray players. (aside from the current Firmware glitch)

3.0 out of five stars A little ways to go!!!!, March 12, 2011
By John D (NJ) See all my reviews () This review is from: Panasonic DMP BDT210 Integrated Wi Fi 3D Blu ray DVD Player (Electronics) My Pros and Cons:
Pros:
Nice Menu Interface
Good Internet Apps (Netflix, VOD, Vudu, Pandora, You Tube,Weather,Picasa.)
Blue Ray and DVD movies played without issues
Updated Netflix UI (With search and genres)
VOD with Prime streaming
One Touch eject\load
Wireless worked with no problem. Have not seen any buffering.

Cons:
Limited file support (Only plays jpg, mp3 and mkv on USB drive. Have to add mpg, m2ts, mp4, and avi)
A lot of my .Mkv files could not play
No random play for mp3′s and jpg’s
Can’t play music throughout slideshow
No NTFS support (Cannot play files greater than 4gb.)
Self Powered USB drive didn’t work
DLNA still looks to be in beta form

My conclusion is that if you want a Blu ray player with plethora of Internet apps, it’s a good unit. But, If you want all that with better support for file formats and capability to use an external USB drive to play your home videos, you may want to keep looking.
